MBA students went behind the scenes with Japan’s most successful brands - 1

A four-day study tour to Nagoya, Japan took our MBA students behind the scenes into understanding the running of Japanese businesses.

Nagoya has always been the hub of Japan’s manufacturing industries and the city was carefully chosen to allow the MBA students to have a closer view of exploring the manufacturing sectors of the country.

A number of visits were made to big names such as Toyota, Shiseido, Yamaha and Kirin Brewery where students learned about the history of these brands and how they went from national to international. Their senior executives shared invaluable experience into the management and operation of their companies which allowed students to gain better insights into doing business in Japan.

Students also attend a short case session by Prof. Hakeem Muhammad Mohsin, Assistant Professor from Department of Finance & Economics at the Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB) where he shared his views on managing multinational enterprise by looking at the case of Toyota.

Students left Nagoya with inspired minds and better knowledge in Japanese culture and business.

“It was a well-structured study trip focussing on both the intellectual and cultural aspects of Japan business. An awesome on the ground experience that goes beyond classroom learning.  It was a great opportunity to meet the local executives, participated in the insightful lectures and visited an advanced manufacturing line with exposure to their rich historical and cultural heritage.”

The NUCB lecture was one of my most memorable classes, I enjoyed the discussion on Toyota case with Prof. Hakeem Muhammad Mohsin.  The visit to the Toyota’s production line following the case discussion was a perfect arrangement!  It helped the participants garner a better understanding of both the theory and practical application. The overall experience from Nagoya study was fantastic and I look forward to the Kazakhstan trip in November!“
